BoardGamePodcasts.com

A directory of audio and video shows about board games and other games, all freely available on the Internet.

Who We Are

Board Game Podcasts is a collection of podcast feeds that have at least one thing in common: The included podcasts talk (at least a little) about board games and related games. Most board game related podcasts include reviews, chatter about the games hit our tables, or even what's going on the industry. We might even talk about other things besides modern board games, but you won't find podcasts that focus on gambling.

Adding Your Podcast

To add your board game podcast to this directory, email Donald Dennis at addpodcast@boardgamepodcasts.com with the following information:

Once you've sent this information, we'll get back to you once you're added in the system or if there are any problems with adding your show. If you haven't heard back within a few days, feel free to email Donald again, in case your email was lost due to a spam filter or otherwise missed.

Are There Any Requirements?

The only requirement to be listed on this site is for your show to discuss topics relating to role-playing games. That doesn't have to be your only show topic, and you do not have to discuss board games on every single show, but it should be a considerable portion of your content. There are no additional requirements to mention this site on your show or anything else along those lines.

Changing Your Podcast Information

This site updates (ideally) nightly by reading your RSS feed and processing it for both your show information and your individual episodes. As such, that means the only change that you need to email Donald is if you, for whatever reason, change your RSS feed address. Everything else -- your show's title, description, hosts, logo URL, and episode information -- is grabbed from your feed, so any changes you make to your feed should be reflected when this directory does its update. That said, please email Donald if you find any problems with the update process.

Note: if your feed doesn't validate, it will likely cause problems with your listing. So if you do find problems, please double-check that your feed is valid with feedvalidator.org. Thank you.

How We Read & Parse Your Feed

This section is for those who are familar with RSS and XML. In case you would like to know where in your feed we get the various information about your show, here are the details:

Show Information (all in the <channel> node)
Show Title
Contents of the <title> node
Tagline
First from the <tagline> node. If that's empty, then the <itunes:subtitle> node.
Show Description
First from the <itunes:summary> node. If that's empty, then the <description> node. If that's also empty, then the <itunes:subtitle> node.
Hosts
Contents of the <itunes:author> node.
Website URL
Contents of the <link> node.
Show Logo
Contents of the <url> inside the <image> node. If that's empty, the the href attribute of the <itunes:image> node.
Episode Information (all in the individual <item> nodes inside the <channel> node)
Episode Name
Contents of the <title> node.
Episode URL
Contents of the <link> node. If that is empty, then from the <guid> node.
Episode Length
Contents of the <itunes:duration> node. This site does not actually grab the individual MP3 files, so there is no other way it obtains an episode's length.
Release Date
Contents of the <pubDate> node.
Description
Contents of the <description> node, with all HTML tags removed.
Additional Information
The entry's GUID and Enclosure information are used in cataloging episodes. The GUID is obtained frist from the <guid> node. If that is empty, then from the <link> node. If that is also empty, then from the url attribute of the <enclosure> node. Your GUID must be unique in order for this site to display your individual episodes. If your feed does not list GUID, individual episodes will not be cataloged.

The enclosure informaion is obtained from the <enclosure> node, specifically the url attribute on the tag. If there is no URL, then the entry is treated as a blog entry without an attached podcast, and is not recorded in the system.
